Forty-Six Diamonds Toscana 2009.Forty-Six Diamonds Toscana 2009 is a collaboration between Fleming’s Wine Director, Ferragamo and Winemaker Nicolò D’Afflitto and is now available in each of Fleming’s 64 restaurants across the country. This limited edition was modeled after Ferragamo’s flagship wine, Il Borro. The Il Borro Winery is located in Tuscany, Italy.

The Sangiovese for this blend comes from Politi vineyard which is one of the highest of the estate at 350 m (1140 ft). Politi Vineyard’s soils are composed of marl and mudstone, the result of a lake that was present in the Pliocene. Its warm south western exposure and significant diurnal temperature change are ideal for Tuscany’s famous grape, Sangiovese.

“This is a wine with solid structure crafted on noble tannins and complemented by spices and a core of sweet red and blue forest fruits,” says D’Afflittoto.

Fleming’s produced its first private label Forty-Six Diamonds in 2007, and since that time has collaborated annually with premium wineries and winemakers to create a wine that is truly one of a kind.

“Forty-Six Diamonds is at the core of Fleming’s ongoing commitment to provide the very best wine experience for our guests,” says Pesquera. “Our goal every year is make food-friendly, harmonious wines that reveal their origins. We have worked with Salvatore for many years, and have included Il Borro on our Reserve List in the restaurants. It is a real thrill for us to work with him and Winemaker Nicolò in creating this year’s Forty-Six Diamonds. We are all looking forward to sharing this limited-edition private label wine with our guests.”

Other winemakers who have collaborated in the creation of Forty-Six Diamonds in past years include Michael and Rob Mondavi, Jr. of the famed Napa family, Ken Deis of Flora Springs, George and Frank DuBoeuf of Beaujolais and Walter Schug along with Michael Cox of Schug Winery. Every Forty-Six Diamonds release is a collaboration of wine, art and the art of making wine.

Thomas Arvid, internationally renowned artist and wine aficionado, was commissioned to create the labels for this handcrafted boutique wine. He creates a new label design each year that features a diamond shape in homage to the wine’s name. Arvid’s oversized still life paintings of wine and the rituals around it adorn the walls of every Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar across the country.
